June 3, 2009. Woodson's Select Women's Ensemble performs "Ave Maria" by David MacIntyre, after a forced reading of the program notes by director Michael Ehrlich. Yay, literacy! Reprinted here: "When he was commissioned to write this short work for Elektra Womens Choir in 1994, David MacIntyre was deep in research on a new opera he was planning to write about paranormal spiritual events occurring in war-torn Bosnia & Herzegovina and, in particular, the daily visitations of the Virgin Mary to a group of children and young adults who ived there. Apparently, these young people would run out into the hills each day in anticipation of seeing this vision of the Mother of God. This phenomena stirred so much international interest that researchers, curiosity-seekers, etc., were visiting the country to investigate, in hopes of experiencing the same visions and visitations. During his own research of this event, MacIntyre was struck by the celebratory nature of the visitations as well as the necessity of connecting with the feminine, maternal nature of the Divine. Hence, the text is not the traditional Ave Maria text but rather written to reflect and capture the repeated, anticipatory, joyous expectation of seeing the vision of the Virgin Mary."

Enjoyable but as others have said, I find it much too slow. I very much prefer the pacing in the rendition by the SFGC.

My school choir performed this song and it was much faster. The story is about kids in a war (i forge witch one) they were being shot at while crossing the street so, this is supposed to be a quick prayer for their safe crossing. Even though it was slower, great performance!!

I agree with lovelydeezy1313. The conductor shouldn't have slowed this down so much. My highschool is preforming this exact same song, and we sing probably twice as fast, if not faster. Fantastic singing though ladies! You all were great, but I want to give props to the soprano ones and two, great job!

the conductor really shouldn't have slowed it down this much! Instead of it being exciting it sounds like their trying to put someone to sleep. And it shows their extremely flat vowels
