"Mary Gauthier's new CD, "The Foundling" is the product of two years work, and is quite simply the best collection of songs she's ever recorded. With 'The Foundling', Gauthier has created her first masterpiece. Not for the easily frightened, it is the most raw, brave and ultimately satisfying album I've heard in a very long time. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. "

A friend (60yo) has just found the identity of his mother whom he'd thought had passed decades ago. She died 7 years ago at the age of 94, having had another life and five children after his birth. He never sought her out until hearing the voices of relinquishing mothers on the radio. One step at a time, he's thinking about contacting his siblings. Not always a happy outcome, but he has one. Mary's music is a constant strength to me about the ache and the loss, and about some moments of joy too.

Today I was at an event with adults abandoned as children (this is how they refer to themselves) and there was so much pain and tears and for them little way of making it better. Mary's music does help me put the pieces back together.

What a gentle and modest way to introduce us to a significant global event. Perhaps we could share this information on our networks so that the greatest number of people may be able to access the performance and be made aware of the issues around adoption and adoptee rights. Mary's experiences can be a catalyst for significant change in attitudes and adoption law.

Mary Gauthier never rests, always braving new territory and inspiring us who are in her artistic wake.
The last and hardest thing for me to talk about is my shame, and mary just stands up and does it, bam, no worries. She's brave and vulnerable and brilliant, and I'm incredibly grateful to have been introduced to her Songbook of life history.
