@rcs300 whoops meant to say on either side of the verticle axis (horizontal axis)

@adjhfadjf test it yourself, aim half ball to eitherside of an object ball and apply center right english and hit soft (little spin) then try the same thing with lots of spin, it will come off at a greater angle. The spin makes the cue ball act like stun because the centripetal force is greater when it is spinning pulling the ball in all directions. This fact is more true when you use inside english and very true when hit a lot of the ball, and less true when you hit little of the ball.

@adjhfadjf But the path of the cue ball does change after making contact with the object ball depending on the amount of english. english can be topleft spin, topright spin, bottomleft, bottom right, or just leftspin or right spin. It is any amount is spin on the verticle axis of the cue ball.

@adjhfadjf "The cue ball's path will not change once it hits a ball unless top or back spin is used." <-- That's what he said on the vid...

This is wrong, to an extent. The cue ball's path will not change once it hits a ball unless top or back spin is used. but it will change once it hits a rail after it makes contact with the ball. Notice when he uses left English, the cue ball goes off the rail at a 45 degree angle toward the side pocket. When he uses right English, the cue ball goes off the rail at a 90 degree angle. Therefore, English does change the path of the cue ball.

I mean no disrespect but this is a misleading video...

Now to explain how english effects the cue ball trajectory. when you spin the ball the force pushes all the matter outward just like on a merry-go-round like the one you probably got thrown off of when you were a kid. that force makes the ball want to resist sharp movements, this causes the cue ball trajectory when it makes contact with an object ball to kind of behave similar to a draw shot meaning it will move outward away more than you may have expected.

This is not accurate - english does in fact change the trajectory or path of the cue ball AND the object ball at any speed or distance. The term "throw" is used commonly in pool and it refers to applying english so that when the cue ball makes contact with the object ball it will cause it to move in the direction that the cue ball is spinning throwing it in one direction or the other. here is an example you can try at home, line up two balls aiming straight for a tittie and use english to throw

Exactly! ALCOHOLICA is right, if you hit the cue ball slow the english DOES in fact effect the angle!
korniev 2 years ago
if you hit the cue ball fast the angle of the cue ball would not change even for the long shots. But if you hit the cue ball slow for a longer shot with english then it will not come out too straight.

This is a load of rubbish, if you hit the ball harder..?

nice table

Try that shot from a longer distance and it will not go in the pocket if you hit it in the same exact spot using inside or outside english. It trasnfers the english to the object ball which changes the path over a greater amount of distance.
