Despite its popularity in zoos, and cuddly portrayal as gentle giants in fiction, elephants are among the world's most potentially dangerous animals. They can crush and kill any other land animal, even the rhinoceros. They can experience unexpected bouts of rage, and can be vindictive. In Africa, groups of young teenage elephants attack human villages in what is thought to be revenge for the destruction of their society by massive cullings done in the 1970s and 80s. In India, male elephants attack villages at night, destroying homes and killing people on a regular basis. In the Indian state of Jharkhand, 300 people were killed by elephants between 2000 and 2004, and in Assam, 239 people have been killed by elephants since 2001. In India elephants kills up to 200 humans every year, and in Sri Lanka around 50 per year.

  • Elephants destructive behaviour??? Now I get it. So the elephants are the ones that build the roads, drive the vans, cut down the forest and plant the crops, build the houses and apartments and hang out the washing. What a revelation. Its all much clearer to me now. Thanks for the educational video.

  • @911ness Simple solution to the malnourished children: Don't breed like rabbits. If you can't support children after one elephant passed your field, you have done something wrong at a certain point. Too much of the natural habitat of the elephants has been taken.

I am realistic enough not to only blame the village people here, but they have to find ways to live with the elephants instead of being at war with them.

  • @chanctonbury63 So let me get this right ... You are, at this moment, living out in a park / forest under the stars. You don't drive or take public transport and obviously don't eat meat or vegetables as this would require killing animlas and planting crops. What a hypocrite.
