I have a '75 Cherokee chief S. I wanna know how I can tell the difference between a 401 and a 360. I can't tell what kind of engine my truck has. Is there any significant differences? And by differences I mean where things are and what a 401 would have over a 360 in certain places and so on. I know it's stupid to ask but I just started fixing my truck and I wanna know so I can start restoring the engine.

It will say in big numbers on the sides of the block under the motor mounts.

360's and 401's share alot of parts like the heads, timing cover, intakes and many more parts swap over.

401's have forged crank and rods from the factory

Sounds awesome! I'm redoing my exhaust on a 73 Commando with a 304... Just a couple of questions: what muffler are you running (and/or cats?) and what configuration is it... Y pipe with a Si/So, true dual, etc.?

I have Thorly headers that came with a crossover. With a 3" single

going through a Flowmastr Big Block II muffler. But I also made my own Cut Out valve.
