One of the most charming waterfront resorts in the South Bay, the Portofino Redondo Beach is one of a few hotels near LAX that don't leave you feeling like you're in the big city, and it's great for a layover flight.

In 2007, the Portofino Hotel completed an $11 million renovation, which included the addition of a new restaurant, a revamped 183-slip yacht club, and 8,000-foot oceanfront conference center.

This romantic maritime hotel has 161 rooms with a view, whether you choose to gaze at the Pacific or admire the million-dollar yachts in the full-service marina. Located on its own private peninsula, the hotel prides itself on being LA's only true oceanfront hotel.

For the ultimate weekend, splurge on an oceanside suite, which comes complete with an iron four-posted bed, roaring fireplace, plasma TV and claw-foot tub. The standard rooms are just as beautiful, so you really can't go wrong.

The lobby living room, with its striking floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Pacific, is an ideal place to start or end your day. Complimentary coffee is offered here in the morning, or you can cozy up to the fire at night while enjoying the free Wifi and a cocktail from the full-service bar.

Though Redondo Beach offers a wealth of fine dining, the Portofino's Baleen Los Angeles is worth a visit. Located just steps from the hotel's lobby, the restaurant offers sweeping views of the marina and is known for its impressive full bar, great seafood and whimsical decor.

When you're ready to head outside, rent a kayak and check out the Portofino's resident sea lions or grab a sunny spot poolside to catch up on a good book or soak in the spa. It's the perfect way to spend a beautiful California day.
