Abby Martin of Media Roots captured an extremely tense standoff between the Oakland Police Department and the Occupy Wall Street protestors.

Things came to a head around 7:45 pm when the Oakland PD started throwing smoke bombs and tear gas canisters into the crowd completely unprovoked.

Check out my coverage from earlier that day when the Oakland PD aggressively raided the peaceful Occupy Oakland encampment and said they were just 'following orders': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NJXEsXlw7Q&feature=relmfu

  • if you make peaceful revolution impossible you make violent revolution inevitable

  • @MsSarahJ56 Excellent!! Do you really want to obfuscate corruption? The Occupy element can absolutely change the world (because we lead the world) by demanding that lobbying, PAC and other entities be ILLEGAL within the halls of American Politics. It's simple...you are either in or you are out. But if you want representation in a population form then you MUST elliminate all contributions to a campaign.

  • fuck protestors, they ASK for it, then when they get whats coming, they complain and good cops loose their jobs

  • @MrSTEEEVER If you're trying to get a point across, you don't just leave when the "Police" tell you to leave. You stand right where you are and fight for what you believe.

    Try occupying intelligence.

  • @zzman305

Oddly, those that TRY to find work statistically are far more successful at "getting" jobs than those that camp out in a park, taunt police, and don't bathe for days on end. Just sayin.

  • @MrSTEEEVER "Try occupying a job"

The reason they're protesting is because they can't get jobs.

Do you tell starving Africans to "just eat some food"?

  • @blackwingangel04 Wall Street Journal: The Judicial branch sent in a Federal Moniter to investigate crimes commited by dozens of Oakland officers following some 200 lawsuits against the city. The crimes range from planting drugs on victims to things brutality you see in this video.

  • There is no doubt, there is corruption in all three branches of the US government. There is no doubt, corporations are destroying the earth. There is no doubt, American jobs are all over seas. There is not doubt, the OPD is way out of line, and is being told to do so, because corporations fear the movement. There is no doubt, every PD in the US is targeting Occupy, for that reason. There is no doubt, American liberties are under attacked. There is no doubt, these protest are justified.

  • @WAbrewer426 What the fuck are you talking about? The government is the problem, and the police are their paramilitary force. If they didn't exist, this movement wouldn't exist either.

  • @atricios Exactly, But how is fighting with the police, who are a product of the government that is creating the problem, Beneficial to solving the problem?? This Should be on the doorstep of congress, and the White house Not parks and business districts..
