San Juan, Puerto Rico (CNN) -- A humanitarian mission to aid Haitian earthquake victims turned into a major embarrassment in Puerto Rico on Friday as pictures emerged of doctors drinking, mugging for cameras and brandishing firearms amid the victims' suffering.

The ethics committee of the commonwealth's medical board said it was launching an investigation into whether those involved should be disciplined.

Puerto Rican Secretary of Health Lorenzo Gonzalez called the episode "a sad situation."

"The poor judgment of a few basically damages the beautiful effort that many others have put in place in terms of providing good medical care," Gonzalez said. "When I saw the pictures, I was very concerned that they have taken pictures of people without any consent."

  • First, Puerto Rico is a worse hell hole than haiti. Second, You can party when are done working in a room not around the victums posing with them like it's funny. Ruthless peice of shits.

  • You right maccu it was insensitive on these doctor's but I do not blame all Puerto Ricans I know that most Puerto Ricans do not behave like this! But these doctor's did not help the image of Puerto Ricans! But what these doctor's did should never put all PR's under the same umbrella, that they are all the same when I know they aren't the blame for these crimes! It is the doctor's who should be the blame and not the whole Island of Puerto Rico!

  • stupid people!!!

  • Yes I agree they are

  • Yea ... just like the humanitarians that were gettin drunk in their food&resource vans when Katrina hit right? Yea talk about white trash. There are released videos out with them as well. What im trying to say is that, all us humans can act like subhuman trash. And the worst ones are thse that uniform themselves as "good".

  • These guys did nothing wrong. So they had a little fun while they were out on a humanitarian mission. Are they not allowed to have a little fun. Maybe instead of helping wounded people they should have taken pictures of them and just posted those on facebook. I was there with the 82nd Airborne Div. I have nothing but respect for them. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for talking shit. You weren't there, so what the fuck do you know?

  • @juang1a Out of Context! There is NO JUSTIFICATION what so ever! I wouldn't want them, WE DON't NEED him for anything! The Proper thing to do is to BAN him FOR LIFE in the Field of Medicine! There IS JUSTIFICATION for the BAN for life,BUT, fasten your seat belt, the Worst is yet to come for Puerto Rico, many are DEAF,DUMB and BLIND and God's Punishment is already being felt on the Island because their Murder Rate is Rising as long as you keep GUNS,DRUGS and ALCOHOL on the Streets! Stay Tuned!

  • This is taking pictures out of context!! I know one of the doctors that was there. They worked hard for many days in a row with little sleep and limited equipment. After saving hundreds of lives, they completed their mission and were going home. On the way back, now in the Dominican Republic, they decided to have a beer to celebrate what they had accomplished. Notice, the beer is Dominican. I'd say they deserved that and a lot more. Who are you to criticize? What did you do?

  • i still dont see the big idea these pictures could of be taken when ever and u just put them under as "Humanitarian Doctor's Celebrating Haiti's Tragedy" sorry but i say fake... :/

  • i am Puertorican and I am very ashamed of this, but is is wrong to blame all Puertoricans because in the following days or Haiti disaster all over Puerto Rico there where numerous concerts and activities to help raise money to be of aid to Haiti and Puerto Rico government responded very well delivering food water and specialist....

  • So we bury the good deeds because they acted like fools?

  • Let's be real people. I am from Haiti and and of course I'm not happy to see the doctor's smiling and drinking in these videos however let's not forget that we were not there when the photos were being taken. Are the doctor's not allowed to smile their entire trip there?? Who knows what they were smiling about... Just saying that a lot can be misconstrued in photos...

  • At least we were not kidnapping kids.... that's much worse and north-americans did it. I am a puertorrican and i can ensure that we are not like that. Everyone commits mistakes and we are so sorry for what happened.

  • I'm sorry but Puerto Rico was the one that gave more help to Haiti in food, and medications. They did this wrong, very wrong, but we are not like that and Puerto Rico citizens were stunned by this and ashamed. Anyway, this doctors receive what they had to receive when they got back to the island. In fact, they were celebrating after their long 48 hour service without break.
