  • Nice footage , i take it the rust problems on the trains are being worked on . Any ideas when they will be back? Am looking forward to riding on one again. Really thought it was the end for these trains, but they just never say die.

  • Thanks for your comments!

I have no idea about the rust on the Hitachi sets. As far as I am aware, the bodies are made of stainless steel. The rusty looking muck on the roof is brake dust stuck to grease which was used to lubricate the overhead.

There are a few Hitachi sets still getting around Melbourne, but I couldn't tell you where they're operating, or when this set will be operational again. I'm not really a 'spark' enthusiast.

  • Oh thanks , according to the media the Hitachi sets were removed recentley due to rust in the floors & doors . It sounded like they were getting fixed up , but then from another source it sounded like they wern't coming back. But i would say from the footage you have the trains are indeed getting repaired.I like the back drop of footage seeing the Hitachi in the bush and the other spots , they look good out of the city area.

  • I think they are being refurbished.

I prefer watching the noisy thing up the front of the train - pretty much the only reason I followed this particular working.
