The bearskin caps were spoils of war from the Battle of Waterloo, where the Grenadier Guards earned their name and were allowed keep the bearskin caps for their actions.
It was a functional headgear way back when it wasn't obsolete.
The bearskin would come down past the eyes, confusing enemy lancers so they end up hitting the bearskin instead of their heads.
The curb chain, which rests on the chin, protected against any sword slashes aimed at the face.

That is why they are still wearing the bearskin cap today, as well as other various ceremonial uniform and equipment, it's tradition. To let everyone else know that they are elite, special and unique compared to anyone else.
So it's not 'pointless', it has plenty of history, meaning and is very much part of Britain.

The only "funny" thing I see here is that there is actual sunshine for once.

I don't see the Chinese helping out in ridding the world of terrorism, where so many allied and British lives are being lost just doing so.
It would seem that China is only bothered with oppressing the people within its boarders; that figures...

That's the way it is mate, if a foreigner makes fun of us (or we think they are) then naturally their nationality becomes an issue. We get a bit sensitive, particularly with so many British soldiers being killed recently. You might not mean it as an attack on the army (I don't think you did), but there are some things that just come over wrong, that's all.

I don't understand why this is funny....

There's no requisite for the leg to be horizontal though personally I think the arm is raised too high today. They look in step to me. Uniformity is what's important. Elaborate marching styles are inappropriate given the range of tempos that different regiments march at and that everything about the Guards has a practical root, ie. no ceremonial rifle or marching style.
What's imperative is their training as front-line Infantry soldiers involved in a rather bitter war.
Hansnowya, I can not believe that you are so disrespectful to another countries traditions and culture. Not funny at all. Very, very rude.

You might think it is hilarious but at least the British Army is subject to the control of a democratic government, consider that if you ever return to China.
