Prayer for pilgrims bound for Mecca (via Istabul) at Berlin's Tegel Airport on Nov. 27, 2008. My wife and I were flying to Istanbul from Berlin; when we got to the area where we needed to check in there were hundreds of people in Muslim garbed jammed there, and there did not seem to be any lines, just a scrum. Turned out it was a group of Germans of Turkish descent going on Haj--a pilgrimage to Mecca--flying via Istanbul. For each pilgrim there were many relatives there to see them off...there were a lot of happy tears.
As I was waiting in line, a man started reading a prayer through a loudpeaker. And in that coSome guy was filming all this with a large video camera from right in front of me, so I may have been on German TV.
Later, some of the male pilgrims were partly undressing and wrapping themselves in white cloth at the gate. They were on the flight in their robes. Quite an interesting experience!
