@tojala I have the same magnavox stereo console that is on the video, it works pretty well the record player I believe only needs a needle. I was surprised when I plugged it in and heard that it was working

Is that the same model used in The Dick Van Dyke show? If you look in the hallway behind the hearth, there's a console that looks very similar to this one.
Hi I was wondering I have a Magnavox 1St635 I was wondering how to set up the auxiliary on it? Do I need special cords or do something special to it? I was wonder how you did it. Thanks!!

@mryl73 Wow, I can barely remember, but: there are two RCA-type jacks somewhere under the metal chassis of the amplifier/receiver unit. They are labelled R &L Aux, as I recall. You can get a cord that is RCA on one end and 1/8 mini-plug on the other for plugging into an iPod or Mp3 player or whatever. Good luck.

We recently bought a house built in 1957 and is very original. I'm really hoping that I can find a late-50s early-60s working console much like this someday. I used to see quite a few of them in thrift stores but they've vanished, sadly. Most parted out and sold on eBay I fear, which is a real shame.

It is a shame. Do you ever check on Craigslist? I see a few of them locally on Craigslist... where are you located?

Hi - there is not necessarily much difference in the sound... it depends on the circuit design, speakers, and the whole system... they probably sound similar. Just enjoy the tube sound!

What did they use input jacks for back then?!?! Great looking old console.

They used RCA jacks like we still use today.
