John Proctor is amazing!
-
When he says "God is dead!!!", he doesn't actually mean that, nor does he mean that in a sinful and disrespectful way. He means that they're acting like God doesn't exist and that it is like he is dead when it comes to the way people in the village have been acting recently. John Proctor is THE MAN!

how dare you make fun of the crucible like this...

ok i didnt mean to laugh but damn

Fortunately, god and his little pool of never ending pain and torture that most people supposedly go to don't exist :)
-
I say "God is dead!!!"

Wow, need to pass through a few religious paragraphs to get down to the comments, lol
Very good, All it's missing is fitting intro and outro music. Other than that i love it.
I disagree with the 'western religion' part of the description. Arthur Miller intended the play to be a metaphor for the current communism crisis in Amercia at the time he wrote the play. It has nothin to do with religion.

@DeathMetalThunder Whoops, that question was,in my head, put to Proctor the character; but it sure doesn't read like it. My bad.
Still, you can't use an allegorical reference without making some comment on the material, whether you want to or not. I can't allegorically describe the financial crisis with the Russian revolution without producing something about class struggle. I can't allegorically describe 50s politics with the Salem Witch Trials without some comment on fanatical factions.

@OldWorldAmerican So much fail. This'll be handy in forums though.

@Megajanitor You can't stand there in broad daylight and tell me that The Crucible has "nothing to do with religion." Yet another example of an allegory working both ways-- Animal Farm. It's an allegory about the failures of the Russian Revolution and revolutionary politics in general. It also, cannot be denied that it's a commentary on how animals get along (mankind) simply because those are the elements of the plot. That's how allegories end up-- a double edged sword.

@OldWorldAmerican First of all, why are you quoting something I never said?
Megajanitor 4 months ago
@Megajanitor I'm not quoting you. "You can't stand there in broad daylight and blank" is an expression meaning "no one can stand there and make me believe that (in this case) the Crucible has 'nothing to do with religion.'" This quote belongs to DeathMetalThunder who luckily paid attention in Literature class but somehow missed the big picture. If Arthur Miller wanted to MAKE SURE his new work would have NOTHING to do with religion he would have used a SECULAR occurrence for a comparison.

@Megajanitor But unfortunately, this is why YouTube discussion usually fall through the cracks-- miscommunications and language barriers. My point is that it shows a lack of understanding of how allegory functions when someone says that a play featuring witch burnings, crooked ministers, sexually repressed youth, and a guy that gets lynched by religious authorities for doing the right thing, albeit used as an allegory to McCarthyism, offers no comment whatsoever on religion.
