There is no cure for the terrible devastation of Alzheimer's disease and also no way to detect the early onset of the malady. Izabela Stroe, assistant professor of physics, is developing a technique that will use dielectric relaxation spectroscopy to detect small precursor molecules that ultimately coalesce to form the beta amyloid protein that makes up plaque seen in the brains of those with Alzheimer's. The technique may help not only with early detection for Alzheimer's, but for diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and other maladies.
