AFSCME demands of the people that work for them the following:
1) To work overtime hours without compensation
2) To not organize into bargaining units
3) If they do organize into bargaining units AFSCME will force those units to put illegal clauses (such as forced overtime without compensation) into their contracts.
AFSCME does not have the moral character to remain a labor union.
bethjoy... it is unfortunate that you chose a response rife with cliches.. you can do better! let me compacty ask (i) who do you trust more in the definition of what a fair wage is: hundreds of years of economic theory or afscme? (ii) why should these folks automatically get a higher wage when the demand for their services has dropped precipitously from technological progress?
no cliches, please.... original thought requested.
Petesburgh...you are obviously misinformed as well. This is what is so sad and pathetic about so called "educated people"... I don't know where you got your medieval studies bull from, but the people who work to keep our University running are helping our education run smoothly. Ignorance is not bliss. Pick up something worth reading and quit being such a dick.
That's great if you have a four year degree. But that does not entitle you to success if the degree is more or less irrelevant (e.g., medieval studies) or if you were not successful (e.g. finished at the bottom of yoru class). am *not* saying this is true for anyone in the video, but just challenging the rhetoric of some who were interviewed.
since when the folks striking the arbiters of what a "fair" wage is? with technological progress, the demand for clerical work is not where it was a decade ago. Of course wage growth has been stagnant. It is a market economy folks. Either look elsewhere for employment or retool to leverage yourself moving forward. AFSCME's continual blatant ignorance on anything even resembling market dynamics is embarrassing and unfortunate.
Carol Carrier...please quit invading every aspect of University student's and staff's lives. I'm sorry you have no soul...Not our problem. This affects my education goals as well, but it's not our fault. Do something about it!
I forgot to mention that what I find most intrusive to my role at the University is actually the presence of workers at all. So students, if you are tired of this harassment, urge your professors and teaching assistants to move their classes off campus so you can avoid these unfortunate interactions.
It's funny how over 900 people wanted a strike, yet only 150 of the 900 people who voted for the strike actually picketed. University of dunces.

AFSCME has no moral fiber.
I know this because I used to work for AFSCME.

Oh, and Mads395, you're obviously getting your information from Carol. Do your own research...that's what part of being a student is about.
