For the first time in about 50 years this Pierce Arrow Straight - 8 has been started. The engine was completely redone in 2002.

  • I love how he's holding a fire extinguisher!

  • Thanks for your comments. You never know what will happen next. Since then, I can start the car with a turn of the key! Now working on the brakes. My hope is to drive it out of the garage in a month or so, and of course video that. When I jack the rear wheels off the ground I can put it in gear and they will spin. However, when I hit the brakes they will not stop the rear wheels. Need to do more work there.

  • I'm always so giddy on first startup's, that I forget to watch oil pressures and other important things. I generally stare at it with a big idiot smile, and think of that stuff 5 minutes later.

  • Thats is EXACTLY what happened! I had not attached the oil lines tight enough and also had the wrong filter. So the car turned over, I was so excited ,and oil started squirting all over the place. I corrected that little problem.

  • @richarddr1234 I was watching a TV show about antique cars and a Cuban exile man living in Spain said he left behind a 1957 Ferrari, a Gullwing Mercedes and a 1930 Isotta Fraschini that had been in his family since new.

  • @jvarela965 I bet they are still running but with russian diesels

  • A Theoretical Physicist who got an engine to run. AMAZING! congratulations, Steve.

  • I've got a '29. Engine much the same, but an updraft carb- can't pour gas down it! I hope that you have joined the Pierce-Arrow Society, they are a great resource. The Classic Car Club would like to see your Full Classic too.

Nothing like getting the engine fire the first time!

  • My great grandfather imported Pierce Arrow cars into Cuba before the company failed.

  • Good job!

Its great when you finaly get them running.

I always have a bunch of fire extinguishers handy when I fire up a fresh engine.

I've had a Lagonda V12 do a spectacular fireball due to a cracked fuel pipe. Luckily no damage, but it happens so quickly.
