As far as lifestyle and dietary changes to help if you are depressed, there are many.
Getting out in the sunlight for 20 minutes a day is an easy way to help boost serotonin levels. This may also help reduce stress levels, another important factor involved in helping with serotonin.
If you are going to take recreational drugs like E or P, make sure you supplement properly before and afterwards, to help to compensate for the side effects of these drugs. It is well known that people who take these kind of drugs have low levels of all kinds of nutrients in their body, as well as the amino acids used to make neurotransmitters or brain chemicals, needed to regulate mood. For more information on the types of nutrients and amino acids needed to take when using these drugs, click here for our information on Pre loading.
Food allergies and intolerances could contribute to feelings of depression. However these are not easy to identify. Those who suffer with a candida over growth can experience depression and other personality problems. Candida albicans is a yeast that lives naturally occurring in the body. Many women have an overgrowth of this yeast in their body, with the common symptom of this being vaginal thrush. However this is just 1 of the many symptoms you can experience with a candida over growth.
You do not need to have thrush to have an over growth. If you wanted to know conclusively whether you have this over growth or not, you can complete this scientifically validated test, which reveals whether you have a systemic problem or not. Show this
If you want to know about specific food intolerances, then you can use this Food allergy test.
Drinking Alcohol affects the chemistry of the brain, increasing the risk of depression. Many depressed people drink, as they believe this will make them feel better and definitely the initial effect when you take that 1st sip does make you feel good, as it stimulates every pleasure centre in your body.
The problem is that most people do not stop there and they continue to drink. This is really where the problems start. People continue to drink and then wake up feeling ill, anxious, jittery and guilty.
I think the key with alcohol is, If you are going to drink alcohol, keep it for occasional use only, not a way to help unwind after work or a stressful situation. Drink because it is a special occasion, as a treat but do not make it a normal part of every day life.
So other contributors to depression may be high toxicity levels and also erratic blood sugar levels.
I was amazed one night when we went to a friends place and another friend was there. This other friend who we will call steve, was drinking and after a while he started ranting about all of these negative things, dragging up information from many many years ago.
We were all starting to become quite irritated with him and the negativity that he was talking about, thinking it was quite out of character for steve. He was getting worse and worse and then we all had dinner. I was shocked that as soon as he started eating, he got more and more relaxed and positive. By the time he finished his dinner, he was the normal steve again. A few months later it was found that steve had diabetes.
This incident really highlighted to me the effect that erratic blood sugar levels have on mood and brain function.
So to support blood sugar levels you need to do 2 main things
Eat regularly each 2 ½ hours and
Include Protein at each meal. Protein is a slow burning fuel. It is vital to include adequate protein with every meal, to help support blood sugar levels.
I have talked about detoxing before but bottom line is, if your body is filled with toxins and your eliminate organs over loaded, then this is enough to make anyone feel depressed.
Just like our car that we tune up regularly, our own vehicle (our body) needs tuning up too.
We have lots of different detox packs here, but I have these 2 to look at today.
There are fantastic community services available, that are there for those who want to help themselves, with problems such as depression. Talk to your doctor or look in the front section of your white pages phone book. Dont be too proud to seek professional advice and help. You do not have to see a psychiatrist if the thought of this is too scary. There are many other therapies available that can help those experiencing depression. These include NLP, Body Talk & Brain Gym, to name a few. Bottom line is, if you are feeling depressed, you do not need to go through this alone. There are plenty of things that can help as well as people who can help you.
