This interview with Mark Riddle is in response to a couple blog posts I've written recently about churches and the hiring process they usually follow to find and hire a youth pastor, but it applies to church staffing in general, as well, especially for pastoral positions.

I think a cookie-cutter approach is great...
A...if you are just starting out, you want to see what the options are to even start with...where to start...what a goal should be.
B...people in general might not know what their goals and approach styles are until they are approached with an opposing or not-quite-right option. You know what I mean?

I think more youth ministries should invest in a interim youth pastor (leader) to help churches to get their ministry in a healthy place when in transition. I think consulting is great, but a seasoned interim YP could be even better. The phio of ministry needs to come from the church not the interim.
