@WILDSTYLENYC My complaint about the current state of the scene is that everyone hates. It's about the connection; if you're dancing with a partner who wants showmanship, give it to her. If you're dancing with a partner who prefers a more sedated experience, then give her that. I think we should all dress comfortable and pay less attention to the other dancers' outfits. If you're not dancing with him, why do you care what he's wearing? Salsa is about your interaction with the music and partner.
I agree with Mamboking's comment about it just seems like there's too much showboating in the club scene now a days, particularly from the guys (I live in Arlington, VA). I am particularly fond of the old school style of Salsa dancing (NYC style) which for me means feeling the music and dancing like you are enjoying it without trying to audition for a role in the movie Fame. Lastly, T-shirts and jeans should not be allowed in clubs, it's just tacky.
it is good to see such terrific salsa dancing except i dont understand why other people stand around and watch the couple doing all the flashy spins when they should be enjoying the music too. i dont get it. by the way since when do you need to be a pro dancer to dance salsa c'mon man. stop with all that spinning specially the men. its not about showing off its about feeling the music. More RUMBA less spins ok 123567.
If you care to see Bobby without his hat and glasses, then type in "Bobby Dickerson & Magna Gopal - Japan Salsa Congress 2008". Milagros, not a SINGLE person in this video is "blacked up" so why you would even think that one person--Bobby--would be is totally beyond me. I hate to be so publicly critical, but you definitely should be more careful about what you say.
If the guy Magna is dancing with Isn't Japanese, then my bad and I apologise. But from where I'm sitting he's asian and he's painted his face/hands black. Therefore he's a fool.
Its actually offensive to Black people. He didn't even do a good paint job. His hands are lighter than his face. I'm not angry - because any race who would want to paint themselves to look black, really isn't satisfied with who they are. peace out.
Yah this was actually a very fun dance for me. Bobby has a great lead and is overall a playful dancer. Often people mistake playfulness for showing off. It's a fine line but this dance was definitely on the playful side. :)

What an A**ehole
So, we're now in the days of the black and white minstrel salsa show.
I take it personally that he had to 'black up'. good thing i wasn't there, i would have beat him with the heel on my dance shoe. PUNK
