Current state of my Voxel Game Engine and a test application (work in progress) to see if a game can be written with it. The engine now takes advantage of more CPU cores. (Such as 4/8 core Mac Pro. This video shows it running on 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo imac).
The engine (software renderer + 3D sprite engine) is written in C++ (SDL for convenience and OpenGL for final image blitting). And now works on OSX, Windows and Linux.

  • I don't understand why the framerate is so low? Are you rendering this without a GPU?

  • @CoderCobyWalker yes its all cpu running c code.

  • wait isnt a voxel a pixel but with volume? cuz this cant be a complete voxel engine, cuz Everything aint voxels, this is more like a classic 3D engine when you still used sprites, for example doom or duke nukem 3D

  • @zyriuz2 the sprites in this engine are voxels (in 3d, in voxels so they have a volume), not sprites as in bill boards used in games like doom.

  • While the graphics would be rendered as 3-dimensional, the movement in the game would be 2-dimensional. That is what is meant when referring to a game as "2.5d".
