Tropical fish Sunset Comet Platy's gives birth to 42 fry

We had our platy in a birthing tank for two weeks when we thought she was going to give birth, she is still healthy and doing fine.

She gave birth to 42 fry but munched on 9 of them and we fed her a small amount of flake food twice at the early stage and near the end of her birthing time.

She was in labour for 4 hours and 45 mins. All 33 fry are doing well.

We put the fry in a smaller birthing tank as my other sunset platy and guppies are ready to give birth soon!!

Please feel free to comment on the vid and as it was such a long birth I have cut the films to show as many of the births within the 10mins aloud for you tube uploading.

A male has a strate sawd like under fin and a female has a fan when droped down hope that helps

nsantmyre1208 if you platy starts loosing white string from the back this is pre birth that the fry will feed on so put in reading box as soon as be gentle as possible as you don't want still birth

Well depending on the size of the fish and age the smaller the platty the less fry about 20 let's say it would take about 3-5 hours and if she is spooked by other fish he may hold them in until its safe for her to carry on. If you put her in the breeding tank turn the light off this way she will be relaxed and won't eat as many of her fry as they are harder to see. My platty was giving birth for 6-8 hours I new when she had done the her base was clear. Ps don't forget to feed at start small amo

MegaVladimir1988 but i would remove them and end there pain due to the other fish catching it. u could try and do every chang, i have a 60l tank and i desove in the new treated water about 3 tea spoons of aquatic salt this did help my fish . good luck hope this helped

 I think that you should get the tank and not the net! The tank separates the mother and the fry (babies). While the net does not! I have been raising livebearer fish for a couple years now!! But i have the tank and the net! What i do is let the mother have the fry in the tank then i wait a day so that the fry are atleast a day old, then i put the fry in the net!!  hope this helped!
