Perhaps no other rider in the history of motocross has made such a lasting impression on the sport as Roger DeCoster. He was definitively known as The Man to motocross racers and fans around the world and his five world championships were only part of the reason.

DeCosters name is synonymous with motocross because he embodied everything that every racer wants to be. He grew up in Belgium amid humble surroundings and slowly worked his way to the top, revered worldwide as motocross royalty. From riding CZs and then the new Suzukis, to his famous battles in the Trans-Am series and the building of the young factory Honda Team in 1981, there has never been a DVD with this much DeCoster.

  • I'd like to see these kids take these 6 foot whoops on mx bike with 4 inches of rear travel, and 6 inches of front travel. See how far and high you wanna jump on one of these bikes!!! Roger was something else. anyone remember JN Roberts in the desert? Try that stuff for a little rush!

  • Roger is a legend !

  • I grew up in Michigan City, Indiana. So we fortunate enough to see Roger at Red Bud once a year. All the kids in the neighborhood had dirt bikes. Roder was one of our heros.I still go to Red Bud once a year, to watch the pros.

  • @gorgibus60 My guess, is that your 100% correct. The hunger hadn't developed in your son yet. receiving the PW50 at age 3 was a way of expected life at that point. Dad's gotta buy food, water and motorcycles. Oh well, it could be a lot worse. He could have never ridden a dirt bike! When he's older and wants a sportbike, he'll have a good base. I feel sorry for kids buying 600 sportbikes (and never ridden) and are in for the suprise of their life, first time they whack the throttle open!!

  • @twoweeled So, so true... I honestly think we got our son his first bike (PW50, at age 3) too soon, and should have waited, and let him watch older kids riding for a few more years, before letting him ride. Now he takes it for granted and isn't very excited about it. When we were kids we dreamed about bikes and would have given ANYTHING for one. Once we were on a bike we wdn't get off till it was out of gas or broken.

  • @avionicswirenut It's really something when a kid has the obsession with dirt bikes like we did. I also didn't have the money to ride like I wanted too. I see these kids now, who's fathers deck them out with all the good stuff (EVEN MOTOCROSS BOOTS!) and just think; you kids don't know how good you have it. Sadly my parents really weren't interested in what rocked my world, or not. Not bad parents, just really not interested. It's not until now at 56 that I can afford it. Better late than.

  • @Aphidboy To get that leading link in the air, you probably were flying! I know on the Sachs, you could hit pretty much anything and survive, but heaavy! Those were some good time weren't they. Lucky you to still have a couple of Greeves. keep that feeling!

  • @twoweeled JN Roberts is alive and well in Helena, Montana.

I agree completely with your comment. I rode Greeves with leading link front suspension. We'd get both tires off the ground and thought we were FLYING. LOL. (Still have a Challenger and a Greeves TFS Trilas bike.)

  • One of the highlights of my teens was seeing Roger race at the Puyallup MX track in Washington State about 1975. He won the first moto with Marty Smith of Honda taking second. In the second moto Marty led wire to wire. Elsinore. Enough said. ;)

  • I use to read every article in all of the moto-x mags back the 80's when I was in my early teens...I wanted to race, but we did not have the money to do it.....I had the bike though......I was not able to race until the 90's when I had a job and could afford it...Raced cross country and moto-x for about 12 years...I miss it, but injuries and funding have it on the back burner again....

  • EPIC..!! Saw him many times, what a legend!
