I was at this show! One of the best DCI shows I've ever seen!

@Rosemont91 he was center marimba and assistant drum major at the same time that year. he didnt want to conduct so they let him play. we had a mellophone alternate do the backfield conducting instead.

@Heineken87 That's kind of stupid. What's the point of being called a "drum major" if you don't do anything different than anyone else, like conducting instead of playing? And why can't they just have one drum major up front for score announcements? Having more than a couple is just ridiculous.

why was he palying then and not conducting? and how did he know the parts? and what happened to the guy that was originally playing it?

As I understand it he was the assistant drum major but not a field conductor. He was a regular member of the pit during all performances and then dressed in the drum major uniform for scores/retreat.
