Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) unveiled its Report to the Nation, rating each state on its progress toward eliminating drunk driving. For four straight years, legislation requiring ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers passed the Virginia House of Delegates only to be stopped or significantly weakened in the Senate. Virginia's strong law enforcement efforts and current limited use of interlocks for certain drunk driving offenders has helped save lives, but MADD urges the Senate to take action on more meaningful interlock legislation. Doug Larson of LifeSafer demonstrates how an Ignition Interlock Device works.
