Echo is my 3 year old African Red Bellied Parrot, and one of the greatest joys in my life.

While he's generally pretty quiet, every morning Echo likes to do a full run through of nearly every sound, word and phrase in his little birdy repertoire. He particularly likes to do this from the towel rack in the bathroom as I get ready in the mornings.

In the video you'll hear him mimic things I say to him like "I love you" and "gimme kiss". He likes to make clicking and whistling noises. Recently, he's started frequently meowing like a cat, which I suspect he picked up at the vet's office where he was boarded one time. You'll hear him do a "door bell" sound which was the alarm on the door where we once lived. He does it every time he knows I'm coming or going, as that sound always represented that in our last home.

And because he's such a good mimic, he can also unfortunately imitate the screeches of cockatiels, conures, and cockatoos, so you'll hear that too! But I still love him so much anyways :)

  • She is a boy--very sweet. The females don't have a orange belly. My Razzy is 21 yrs old hatched April 1990 and in excellent health. Good luck with your little guy.

  • @sandydenali wow! 21 and still going strong! that is wonderful to hear :)

  • @socalgirl220 She gives me kisses all the time. Some of them big and some little.lol I am trying to teach her to whistle jingle bells. This is harder than talking for some reason. She whistled in the past pretty amazing. Then no more. Today she said, " come here ", first time ever. I just repeated only once. I was in awe. I tried "Peek-a-boo!" before. That did not work. I wonder everyone of them has their choice of words. Who knows?

  • @thraciensis i love the new phrase she learned! I recently tried to teach Echo, "what's up?" but no luck yet. He's really stuck on "Peek-a-boo!" right now.

  • @socalgirl220 Echo has a beautiful vocabulary. We admire him. She is doing well and giving kisses to me while I am writing this. Gioia started to say,"What'cha doing?", especially when she does not see me around. LOL I am happy that Echo has Marley as a friend right now. Hope your fuzzies are chipper, as well!

  • @thraciensis Echo is about 3 years old now and still learning so much! They pick up SO much! And yes, they love their out of cage time a lot, which is good for them anyway. I try to give him as much as possible. I hope everything is going well with Gioia!

  • @socalgirl220 Thank you, she is such a joy in my life. She is a character and wants to be out of the cage all the time.LOL How old is yours? Mine is 15 months old and still learning a lot of things .:)))

  • @thraciensis thank you so much! red-bellies are such a joy -- so you gave yours a most appropriate name. post video of your baby! :)

  • Your baby is cute. I enjoyed it a lot. I just became a parent of a female red-bellied parrot. She is a such a joy. Her name is Gioia, meaning Joy in Italian.:)
