This isn't the WWE. That's not tv cues, signs distributed to fans, direct prompting from the wrestlers or audio sweetening that accounts for that reaction. That reaction is pure; it's people reacting to a drama in which they're emotionally invested. How these guys could play a crowd! Cranking a headlock got more reaction then than getting piledriven through a table gets now. This was my favorite time to be a fan. I often wonder what would've happened if Youngblood had not died.

I have always loved how David Crockett was into the match when he was anouncing a match.

Compare the amount of money to generate heat for this match in '83 to what it costs now... the irony...priceless.

Great shot of Slaughter at 2:56

Wow...10 minutes of Kernodle being in a headlock. And the fans stay into it. Today's WWE audience start booing if an armbar is applied for more than 5 seconds. Or if HHH is "wrestling".

i remember this like it was yesterday. i really wanted to see this match. i remember one of my friend's who happened to be my next door neighbor going to this match. i cried for hours because i wasn't able to go with them. oh the memories. if only crockett had never gone bankrupt.

Steamboat and youngblood are what evolution used to be 6 years ago. They were just so popular in the 80's.

this is indeed a CLASSIC....Steamboat/Youngbloo
d is one of the best teams ever, and they're so overlooked....Mid-Atlantic definately kept it real

This is truly classic stuff, the kind of wrestling that may never exist again.
In the annals of heel-history, Kernodle was a true great. His t-shirts were hilarious, and he was very good as the heel-acting-like-a-hero, later done by Kurt Angle. He was also an outstanding pro wrestler.
Mid-Atlantic just kept it so real, like announcing Slaughter as being "From the U.S. Marine Corp..."
