Think he is talking about going on a carnival ride. Like a fake "tour of hell" ride "give the tickets to the man, we're riding in a tin can" Think he is talking about an affair maybe he shouldn't be having. Knowing that, he knows if he does this, they will go to hell, where you go for bad behavior. He wants it so much, he doesn't care of the consequence, almost embraces it.

Yes, screwy, nonsensical, who would want to go to Hell and find it romantic and enjoyable? It's screwy. Like a weird joke. It's as screwy as a dog riding a bicycle :)
