On Nov. 20, 2009 Patriots United (PatriotsUnited.com) hosted the 8th Congressional District Debate to select a candidate to run against Melissa Bean. It was co-hosted by the McHenry County Young Republicans, the 9-12 Project and moderated by WLSs Jerry Agar. Approximately 300 people attended.

The following candidates responded a variety of hard-hitting questions borne out of the 5 Pillars of the Patriots United core issue or pillars:

1. Pro-family (Life, Traditional Marriage, Resist Culture of Death)
2. Limited Government (Abide by the Bill of Rights)
3. Free Market Economy (Lower Taxes, Pro-Entrepreneurialism)
4. Choice in Education, Education not Indoctrination (Charter Schools, Private & Parochial, Vouchers, Home Schooling)
5. National Defense (Safer Communities, Immigration Reform, Strong Military, Second Amendment Protection)

Candidates: Joe Walsh, Chris Geissler, Dirk Beveridge, John Dawson, Maria Rodriguez, and Greg Jacobs.
