Released in 2010 on Last Gang Records.

Mark Sultan is a garage rock / 50's pop music revivalist. He was born in 1973 and has been tremendously active in the Canadian garage rock scene, performing in such acts as King Khan & The BBQ Show, Mind Controls, Les Sexorenos, Space Shits. He has a million different names. This is his 2nd solo album as Mark sultan.

Sultan continues to explore 50's / 60's doo wop, R&B, rock pop sound on $. The music on here is very fuzzy, catchy and diverse. The songs can be sweet and charming one second and distorted and noisy the next. Same for sultans vocals, they can be sweet and melodic one second and then freaking out the next.

Like the album has some sort of musical, bi polar disorder.

Anyways, the basis of this album is pretty simple. It's just some catchy, garage rock influenced, 50's sounding rock and roll. It has ballads, distortion, heartbreak, soul and psychotic breakdowns. Lots of ideas and sounds and interesting instrumentation.

For fans of Black Lips, King Khan and 50's doo wop / r&b.

  • I got sent this CD as a digital promo, and I just wasn't sure at to how to get into it. I <3 KK & BBQ but I just had a hard time enjoying it. Maybe all the lo-fi sound was putting me off. Not sure. *shrugs*

  • @theneedledrop Yeah, it took me a few months to really get into it. I didn't really know what to make of it at first, it was so strange and noisy to me. I guess it take s a while to digest. Almost like it was experimental garage doo wop type shit. I dig it now, though.

  • Yeah I'll probably end up picking this up. Mark Sultan is my kinda dude. Do you have that album he, King Khan, and the Black Lips released as the Almighty Defenders?

  • @Alex703rockstar

Nah, but I am keeping an eye out, though. I heard it's kind of a mixed bag.

  • Nice, I'll have to check this out. I really dug all three of the King Khan and BQQ Show albums. Thanks!

  • @theGodofDeath

This is pretty much the same stuff. Just a little noisier, fuzzier.

  • I'm lovin' the vocals

  • @YoureWrongImRight Yeah, I saw it on vinyl for like $10 at the record store earlier this year and I picked it up without having a clue who it was and I enjoyed it, but there are some comically sloppy moments on that record. It didn't really get good reviews.

  • "how is everybody today.....good to hear" ¬¬

  • @YoureWrongImRight works for me, repetition can be a good thing sometimes.
