To the Japanese national you are (and always will be) Japanese, not an American. This is regardless of your nationality. :-) To most folks here believe true Americans are white anglo-saxons (not realizing that is European). While most people understand the mixing pot idea....they aren't connecting the dots mentally. It's a big, logical jump for them to understand that America is about a county, not a race of people! :-) That's changing, I think...but still it's a common stereotype.

How's the NWO turning out america? because I would really like to have a one world government where the countries are states and the world is controlled by a multiparty republic.
or we could turn into a galactic empire and conquer the galaxy!

you're lucky that you're a u.s. citizen. im a native japanese person who lived in the states for 10 years because of my dad's work. i had to go back to Japan when i was 15 and yea, i struggled alot for the first couple of years. i have japanese citizenship and even i felt discriminated. i can't wait for the time when i'll be able to live in the states again. you're lucky.

Anyway, I'd go back to visit in a heartbeat. I loved the mountain people, where you eat veggies picked by 80 year old ladies carrying huge straw baskets full of goodies. They were open minded and entertaining. I miss everything about Japan except the rush hour Tokyo trains and the crowds associated with that madness... but then again, imagine if that were NYC. All in all, I learned to Love Japan. Peace.

Ended up with a few girlfriends. One of which I met at the climbing gym and stayed with a year after moving back to Oakland. She came to visit and loved it. Cooked dinner for me every night and breakfast/lunch everyday. Love their loyalty, but I still prefer American girls for the most part. It's just a matter of finding an open minded one that's not crazy or stupid. Japanese girls are awesome though, albeit sometimes robotic and lack a bit of spunk in the sack.

Taught skiing in Nagano, but the whole place turns into Australia in winter, so that was easy and fun, mainly teaching Aussies and Kiwis. Teaching English in Tokyo was epic. I started my own private program and had a couple/few students a day in Shibuya and Shinjyuku. Knowing some Japanese allowed me to translate simple English into Japanese. One of my students kept saying how cool it was that I spoke English, "kakko-ii!" every other word. She was hot. It was cofee-shop --> love hotel.

@stonefiend77 continued... Erashaimasse! Mac and Kentucky.. hook it up with refills son! Hey man, it's an island culture with a limited angle on the world. Most students study the history of Japan, not world history.. so they don't know where Lithuania is, let alone their struggles with Russia. Back on point.. it took a few months to gain popularity in the climbing gym. I taught the kids program, and outdoor advanced climbing. Old-timers still thought I was weird, but whatever.
I think there's also japanese americans that get discriminated by their own people in Japan because they are 'different'. People also get jealous of you or assume you think you're better than them because you can speak some english. But Japanese people are unaccepting regardless. I could never live there...Being outcasted by your own people? No thanks

@junglebaby448 Definitely know the feeling. I was super naiive before I moved to Japan. I thought it would be like how it was in Cali, but I was totally wrong. To be honest, I regret ever coming here, lol. At least I only have to be here for 2 more years. All I can really do is enjoy it as much as I can.

Well Asians and Japanese Americans have been racially discriminated in America for centuries. Go and study Asian American history for those facts. So any Asian American who goes to Japan or Asia will be able to experience being part of the majority for the first time in their life, physically.

@DJmixmastermicro I think you have a valid point. But living in southern California for 18 years, I don't think I've ever actually felt discriminated against. In fact, I feel more discriminated agaisnt living in Japan.
