Texting Illegal for Commercial Drivers

The U.S. Transportation Secretary announced it is now illegal to text while driving commercial vehicles. As Nancy Cordes reports, some states already have bans on texting while driving any vehicle.

Texting needs to be banned for ALL DRIVERS.

Australia is way ahead of the US on this issue. 5 years ago they banned cell phone usage of any type while driving. It isn't the phone in the hand that causes distractions and accidents, it is the brain focused on something besides the road.

Highways are FEDERALY FUNDED. That's why.

Truck and Bus drivers have to take and pass a Commercial Motor Vehicle exam given by the Federal Highway Safety Commision.

Standard Motor Vehicle License test is simple compared to the various endorsements truckers have to get in order to drive, i.e., hazardous materials, tanker, flatbed, etc. Plus additional driving school and training on loading.

nope it only takes a second. but when your drunk your drunk for hours and not just a few seconds. when your drunk you have alot of things going bad for you that could cause a accident. i am not saying texting while driving is ok just that driving while texting is not more dangerous then driving.

I hope it never happen, but imagine your kid getting hit as he get out of the school by a girl that was texting while driving. The problem is not that you text, is that you do it driving. In some countries you cant even eat while driving.

you also dont have a sense of balance (like staying in the lines) could stright up pass out (thats more then a couple of seconds off the road) slow reaction time (if you do see something not as able to react as quick), and so on. text you only take you eyes off the road for a sec and smart people only do it when they see nothing ahead. after that sec they look right back up acting normal. if your drunk you cant do that. drunk is worse then text.
