Im Joydeep, the product manager for Sybase IQ. Today Im going to talk about Sybase IQ 15 and how it can be used for advanced analytic applications. Today firms are looking to get ahead by focusing on two areas, either to get a competitive advantage and/or to streamline their operations. In both of these cases they are looking for analysis of data points, either by looking at trends or summarizing of all the data points. But quite often those are not enough, they need to go deeper, they need to ask the question of why certain trends happen, how they happen and what may happen if some of the variables changed. For example, an insurance company trying to estimate its risk exposure based on sudden calamities. Its not just the fact that the calamity may happen but the magnitude of the calamity can affect how much of the risk is exposed. Same thing with the telecom company, they are trying to look at the network traffic analysis and looking for deviations from the norm and actually seeking answers as to why those deviations happen. Or a licensed researcher looking for protein structure and looking for appliers there. In all of these questions, the basic idea is to be able to explore your data, understand your data, validate your data and then make some intelligent predictions. But to support these activities you need a really solid info structure and that can look through vast amounts of data, an info structure I which you can analyze the data in an analog manner, the ability to support many users and the ability to do it quickly and flexibly. And, not to forget that it has to be cost effective. In the past, most organizations have used traditional database tools and technologies. While they may have worked, there are serious challenges in todays environment with the growing amount of data, the growing amount of users and the vast complexity of the questions we ask, those are not enough. This is where Sybase IQ 15 comes in. Sybase IQ is the worlds leading column based analytics server thats been specifically architected for analytics. Sybase IQ not only brings you the ability to do a number of queries on vast amount of data but it has been proven its been deployed in over 1500 organizations on more than 3000 products. Whats really exciting is that today we are announcing Sybase IQ 15, the latest generation of this product. In Sybase IQ 15 we have specifically added features and functionalities that address the advanced analytics needs. For example, we have added query parallelism that takes full advantage of todays new generation of contact cold chips. We have new compression algorithms that enable us to not only save data on the disk but is able to store vast amounts of data that can be analyzed based on the historically data sense that the company has gathered. Or, we also have tools that allow you to model the data, administer when the system is up and running and also develop applications around your analytic needs. I would also suggest that you go to Sybase.com and take a look at the white papers, introductory videos and also try out Sybase IQ to see the difference.
