The latest trade dispute between the United States and China — the worlds largest and third-largest economies — is brewing, after U.S. President Barack Obama approved much higher duties on Chinese-made tires on Friday.
Those cheaper imports have grown substantially over the last five years, and now account for about one of every five tires purchased in the U.S. At the same time, production of American-made tires has declined and more than 5,000 jobs have been lost.
On Monday, China hit back, filing a complaint with the World Trade Organization and announcing an investigation into whether U.S. chicken and automotive products are being dumped at unfairly low prices in China.
Daniel Rosen of the Rhodium Group, an economic research firm, joins Daljit Dhaliwal to discuss the larger implications of the trade dispute with China.

  • China can't say a damn thing until they play fair with their currency. They're keeping it artificially low, those bastards aren't playing fair to begin with.

  • CHINA would be Pissed if there's Tarriffs!!

  • "free trade" is not what we want... "fair trade" is. China is ripping off America. The way I see is, China is peddling "economic cracks" with cheap / bad products into US market. The more we buy "made in china", the more we destroy our own economy.

  • @assoonas1 It is time for tarriffs on all imports. South Korea limits U.S. imports of cars of 8000 but yet we import over a million KIAS. wtf

  • China, Russia...they all have tariffs. For a Mercedes in Russia, you pay 40% tariffs.

And of course the Renmibi is manipulated heavily.

  • We must put tariffs on China products. They have been screwing the U.S. for far too long by manuipulating its currency. China is by far U.S. biggest problem.

  • When would it ever be free and fair trade?

  • @needbailout

China violates the WTO everyday by manipulating it's currency. Since when did they care about following any rules? Is the U.S. the only country that WTO rules apply to. If so I say we kick the WTO to the curb asap. China is fine for toys or i phones but I would rather not share a highway with someone dumb enough to buy a Chinese tire. They have a right to put themselves at risk but not my family.

Totally agree. These days I would think the highest cost to most big businesses would be the ridiculous compensation the executives make. If workers work for the lowest possible wage why don't the executives. I hapen to think you can find someone for less than thirty million a year to run one of these companies. I'd be happy to step in for a quarter of a mill and spend the year laying around taking vacations for that.

  • Funny for China to complain at all considering currency manipulation is a violation of the rules for free trade. They don't have a leg to stand on. I hope our government places the tarriffs on all Chinese goods asap and then uses the proceeds to pay off the Chinese loans.
