In this series of 3 short clips, I'm talking about the component musical parts of 'Road To Reno' one of the songs from my EP 'Amerikana', explaining how it was put together in ProTools. If you want to download the EP, you should go to my web site thomasdolby.com, and sign up as a member of my fan community The Flat Earth Society.
I luv this song! He's making music that is totally different from the stuff he did in the 80's. He's such a great storyteller! Luv the line about Palmdale.

The tune dissection idea is a good one, especially when it comes from someone like Mr. Dolby. Personally, I'd be interested to hear (and see) an example of how he approaches balancing his mixes, which is quite often a tricky thing to do.
I see it's charm as a writing and recording space, but does he execute the mixes in The Nutmeg, too? Or, is the "critical" track mixing carried out in another environment?
Finally, if he could speak about how he approaches Mastering, that too could be cool.

took this tune out for a spin on the 395 the other day, which i'm guessing is the "road to reno" in question. although i didn't go all the way to reno, the song suited the scenery nicely!

I must be honest and say that what your doing these days Thomas just isnt that great. Your to involved with other musicians who arent adding anything to your music (comfort zone). You have shyed away from electronic roots because you might feel younger guys can do it better. No, only different. Your character and song writing will shine through, but I/we need to hear it you making electronic stuff. thats your strength, trust me on that one....(from secret producer :)
You inspired me....
