  • I just got my front hip circle! Bars is improving, along with front tumbling. Still suck at beam though :-/, but very happy with bars.

  • @mindyschocolate Congrats! I always wanted to do well on bars, but I never had enough strength to do it. I also couldn't do a hip circle unless I had a spot. Isn't it fun to fly though? :)

  • @Temptresstoo it's pretty fun, but my taps swings still need a ton of work. Everytime I go back, I tend to bend my knees, and I have to regrip, but I always start to peel off by my third "tap"- if you want to call it that, lol. I should record myself to see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong. I won't go into my casts, lolol. Those kids make it look so easy! I'm afraid of pitching over the bar. I'd like to be able to jump to high bar if I can get myself to stand on the low bar

  • @mindyschocolate Yeah, it's a lot of mental stuff, that's for sure. Jumps to high bar aren't too bad if you can think of them as a quick transition. Get up there and go, don't wait and hang around to balance. Even elite gymnasts have a hard time balancing a stand on a bar (just look at Vanessa Atler). I would get my feet on there and straighten up as I was already focused on the high bar and making the leap (which isn't a huge leap, it just feels that way). Anyway, congrats again!

  • BTW, this sounds really dumb, but how do you get over your fear of falling with doing beam work?

  • @jfluter Well, falling isn't really a big deal considering the amount of mats you have underneath you. Plus, for most stuff you work on the floor beam for a while until you are comfortable to move it up to the regulation level. Best of luck!

  • This is fantastic. I just went to my first (in 23 or 24 years) gymnastics lesson earlier this week and had so much fun. I can't wait to go back and play some more.

  • Thanks for posting the video! Honestly, I didn't know that beginning adults gymnastics existed until very recently, and totally want to take a class for fun. As a kid, I wanted to be an Olympic gymnastic or figure skater, depending on which Olympics were showing. I decided to fulfill the dream of ice skating this year, and have been absolutely loving it. Now, I want to add onto that and give gymnastics a try. So, I contacted a local gym, and hope to take my first class this summer.

  • @mindyschocolate I was a serious gymnast back in the late 70's, we never used hand grips. Even while practicing giants on bars... We sure built up some BIG TIME calloused hands. Sometimes huge blood blisters covering my entire palm. We used to do what was called semi-circles on the bars just to rip the skin off the blisters. Yes, ouch and quite disgusting. Then scraping all the blood off of the bars with sand paper!! Yes, I would suggest you get grips, takes too long to toughen up those hands!!

  • How old were you when you started gymnastics your amazing. Im 16 so is it to late to start?
