  • I think I saw her play this at Merle fest. I sure did not know then. she was famous.

  • @JandritoBlues ....both Hurt's "old fashioned" picking and Piedmont styles are grounded in parlor guitar arrangements and ragtime. Hurt's "mother's man" was his father. She was from the McCain plantation in Teoc, MS......John McCain's family...

  • @emmet123174 Or "Don't Ever Drive a Stranger From Your Door." Mississippi John Hurt's style seems to be related in some very real way to the guitar tradition from the The Piedmont and the Tidewater. I'm not sure if it is that the styles have common roots or that Hurt had direct influence from a guitarist from East of the Appalachians -- maybe his mother's man?
