Derren uses his skill to select a 'random' victim, and makes him guess what's inside a small box. Victim can't let go of object when retrieved from box.

@CherryHaze86 He wasn't hypnotised. >.< Derren used a mix of skills. A little bit of this and that.

Darren might be using a double-induction technique where he keeps the guy focused on him, shaking him from the right shoulder as a pattern interrupt, while a confederate or two, perhaps a recording, positioned to enter his left ear provides the verbal induction. Just a guess.
