The Accessible Aquarium Project builds on our intuitive understanding of music to relay visually dynamic experiences as aural ones. In particular, we focus on sight dependent exhibits, as those in zoos and aquaria, where the visually impaired suffer the greatest disadvantage. With computer vision, we track the active members of an exhibit. Locational information then streams to a computer running the generative music algorithm. Each tracked object now becomes a melody. Similar objects, same species in the case of animals, map to the same instrument (i.e. every clown fish is represented by marimba music). We believe that by capturing salient gestures and mapping them to the parameters of realtime generative music we can inform, entertain, and overall enhance the experience by observers.
Niko, this is so cool!!
Hope to see you sometime soon.
