  • sounds corny because it's so common and obvious...but at a coffee shop, sipping it black, reclining, enjoying conversation on philosophy or art with an old friend.

I've been looking for renditions of Miles Ahead for some time. LOTS of online ref's say Miles Ahead but play something different.

    Thanks for posting.

  • To me, that is poetry set in a social context.

I am glad that you appreciate the post.

  • @mowriter the original Miles Ahead was a bop tune that Miles wrote for Charlie Parker in the 40s. It's not related to this.

  • Trad jazz does not suit the context of the scenario described.

  • Hardly any arrangement/ orchestration in all of Jazz can match Gil's in terms of sophistication. Make me wonder how Miles' music might have shaped up if he hadn't collaborated with Gil (and Bill Evans and George Russell).

  • This is what I used to call jazz- to hear Miles over at someone's house on their Hi-Fi console back then was really livin'.....miss his tone and the spaces..... we had a lot more head room back in the 60s....

  • This is wonderful.........

    Thank you!

  • I was feeling a bit down before but this song is medication.

  • This is simply one of the most beautiful performances ever recorded irrespective of genre . The ensemble and miles' solo are as close to perfection as I have ever heard!

  • I feel mentally filled (mind, body & soul) , thank you! ~Phurdrick

  • sheer beauty.

  • ah the colours, sweet friction..the bass instrument that moans under the intro arrangement is so lovely..the trumet/ fugelhorn sighs...kneads the senses deliciously..thanks, gil evans, miles

  • In 1947-48 Miles spent a couple of spells in the trumpet seat with Charlie Parker's group. A lot of bop tunes were either fast blues or harmmonic variations on standards with the name changed to avoid copyright. The names were often puns on the players' names. The original Miles Ahead is just a fast blues in B flat. Miles worked with Gil Evans in the late 40s and they became close friends so CBS got them together in 57. Miles Ahead was composed by Evans and is a new tune. miles wrote the solo.
