sounds good because the runners are for hosepower theres different runners but the shorter the runner the more torque the longer runner more hosepower
The "tuned" port design is over rated. Especially using factory stock, or factory compatible aftermarket replacements. The runners are too narrow, and don't allow the engine to breath in the upper RPM's. The Longer intake path also creates a restriction as the revs climb.
LT1 got around this with a relatively small plenum area, and short runners. It doesn't take advantage of a tuned pulse like TPI does, but the torque curve is flatter, and broader resulting in more power under the curve.
TPI is not a good intake to make high HP numbers on. They start to choke out at 4500 RPM. I still have the stock stall and gears (for now), and I have no problem shredding the tires. Plenty of torque. And now the car pulls to 6100 rpm easily. I couldn't be more happty.
No one ever complained about LT1s lacking throttle response or torque.
An iron headed LT1 with a baby cam makes 70hp more than its TBI cousin using the same camshaft. This is the heads and intake alone making all that extra power.
I've had a HSR, I NEVER noticed a lack of torque. Just a big smile on my face as the tach kept on trucking way past 5,000rpm without slowing down.
really nice Z man.... love the irocs and GTA.... arent you irocthe5.7 the moderator on thirdgen.... im 88fastgta... really love the way your car sounds.... i just built a 355 forged hotcammed highflow tpi setup... looking to get afrs next year....
