Haha very nice, I love the explosion of photons :)
However it's a bit of a simplistic representation of photon mapping. Shooting of the photons is only part of the solution unless you're only using it for caustics. For GI, estimating irradiance directly from the photon map tends to produce rather terrible results in real scenes.

Here "photon" does not mean real physics photon. Here "photon" means CG word.
Almost all CG renderer ignore quantum effects.
