trying to make the argument that it's not any good "on it's own" kind of falls flat when all your complaints that follow have to do with things that were changed since Deus Ex and were done worse than Deus Ex.
it's not a good game (and it's a horrid sequel), but it's still very playable, surprisingly humorous, fun to goof around in, and even arguably clever in a few bits (NG Resonance, for example, even if you saw it coming).
Oh and the best physically impossible barrel fires in any game.
