  • got few quick question, how often should i clean my pipe? after every use or? if i got out, and want to take my pipe with me, is it oki to keep in in my pocket or should i get box for it? i am use to rolling my own cigarettes, and can it damage the pipe if i use for example golden virginia i mean is there any risk? and last but not least, how can you tell if your pipe is getting bad, will it smell bad or something like that?

  • @the2014 I always suggest you clean the pipe during and after each use by running a pipe cleaner through it. That keeps me from having to do "deep cleaning" so often.

  • ok, i was wondering how safe it is to only smoke 2 bowls a week. and wash my mouth really good every time i do it?

  • I couldn't tell you. I average more than two bowls a day and spend more time cleaning the pipe than my mouth and haven't had any problems. For legal reasons I would NOT say something like "2 bowls a week isn't any more dangerous that most of the other things you're exposed to."

  • eric - I haven't gone through your entire series yet, but in this vid about getting a first pipe, you didn't say anything about filters - what's your opinion on them and do you use them? thanks, d'Pappy

  • I don't use filters. When I buy pipes that take them, the first thing I do is yank them out. I like the unobstructed airway, and I also feel more comfortable being able to run a pipe cleaner through during the smoke rather than rely on a filter to absorb the moisture.

All that said, I suggest everyone try their favorite blends with and without filters as I did to find out what they prefer. Many pipe smokers, much more seasoned than I swear by them. Thanks for the question!

  • Any type of smoking is a risk and although most pipe smokers don't inhale its still a risk that pipe smokers accept. Pipe smoking is more about relaxation and the benefits derived from it. By the same token, if you're worried about the health issues from pipe smoking you should also be concerned with the kinds of food you eat, how much exercise you do etc.

  • would you get away with smoking "roll up cig" tobacco in a pipe or does it need to be strictly for a pipe ?????

  • @Roydog135 Well, you're at a much lower risk of Lung Cancer or Mouth Cancer than if you used Snus, Snuf or Cigarettes/Cigars.

Twice a week is fine. There are people who smoke 4 packs a day and live 60 years. Any damage is negligable

  • @FlattyRatty

Ive done it and depending on the blend it works great it burns slow, taste great, gives off lots of smoke.

  • Great series. I was browsing some how to videos on pipe smoking, and yours were the most helpful.

  • @FlattyRatty you neeed to break it down with scissors or a marijuana grinder (depending on how fine it is)

  • "Big collection of crappy pipes" - wish I would have seen this series a few years ago. Glad to see it now. Great info presented in an intelligent way. Thanks!

  • Hey eric, I just started the pipe smoking hobby. I found a couple of Dr. Grabow. It seems that they are brand new, but have been factory broken-in, because there seems to be a thin layer of graphite in the bowl. I was just wondering how you feel about these pipes as a beginer pipe.

  • Hi eric. Why don't you smoke your pipes when you do your videos? I am trying to get off of ciggs and what to smoke pipes. Thanks PJ

  • Hey, just wanted to say thank you for the series. Your videos have been a huge help for this newbie.

  • hey eric I've got a 1967 peterson harp pipe and I bought i brand new this year for $200 and it's awesome I know that's irrelevant but I just think it's awesome haha
