How to tie a Monkey's Fist knot - from http://www.SelfMadeSailor.com - A practical and decorative knot that forms a sphere or ball at the end of a rope. It can be used to add weight to the end of a heaving line or as the business end of a sailor's weapon (similar to a morning star).

  • Am I losing my mind or is somebody playing pinball behind you?

  • @bowlingguitarfreak The noise you are hearing is our cockatoo, Charlie, playing with the toys in his cage. In some of our videos, he is actually commenting in the background, trying to be part of the conversation. If you look at our website (the name is on the video) you can see him.ayjay

  • Thank you for your awesome videos! Very well done

When making a monkey fist with only one end of the line coming out (like the carpet cleaner) - Do you just tie it close to one end and hide the excess of the short end into the center of the knot? I'd like to make a line with a moneky fist on both ends for cable pull downs at the gym (like for training triceps or close grip for lats)

  • @ginir00kami - Thanks for watching - I love the idea of using twin fists for cable pulldowns! To finish it, just work it very tight and trim the short end off just as it exits the knot. If you have the end under tension as you trim it, it'll tend to creep back under the last strand that passes over it and disappear from sight. If you have a bit of excess and are using a synthetic like Nylon, some careful melting of the cut end will also do the trick. Good luck with it!

Hi - Thanks for watching our videos.

Yes, it monkey's fist weapon is indeed very powerful - I occasionally hit the heavy bag with it at my martial arts club, and it would certainly break bones if used in anger. I've only used it for cleaning the boat's carpets though, and intend to keep it that way. As for videos showing it smashing things, I think i'll pass on that - particularly when requested by someone calling himself "wifebeater"!

  • if i make this i will use it for self defense only

  • This comment box apparently does not allow one to type in an internet address, so all I could write was 'themonkeyfist'. Add the dot c*m.
