Paul Qualls, 1918-1990 Singing Evangelist Church of the Nazarene

Josh 3:11
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
KJV

Josh 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
KJV

  • Love this song, it was just sang at my sisters funeral. Such a blessing to hear this gentleman sing it. If he knew he affected someone today who never knew him....

  • @nossful Thanks so much, your kind words have blessed my day!

  • @JimQualls

That is a beautiful story! Too bad so many country music singers crossed over from gospel. Many no doubt, went out into eternity and "almost" made heaven, but for that sad choice they made at the crossroads so many years before. I know your dad is singing in heaven right now because he chose to to live for God. I love his rendition of "Ship Ahoy."

  • Thanks Brother Chaim,

Dad started singing in local revivals in his late teens and actually full time in cross country revivals and camp meetings before he was 20 and never did anything else until he went home at 71. His Dad wanted him to be a preacher but he said, "Paul, if you're going to sing, don't sing foolishness. Sing the Gospel." And for the next 50+ years he did. He never accepted an offer to do a secular recording and never sang where tickets were sold or admission charged.

  • So effortless! So sincere! The praise and encouragement of his ministry! I LOVE IT!

Jim, I just finished 5 months singing to and in fellowship with the elders here in AZ. Ages 65-90.

Often His love for them and their losses brought tears to my eyes but I SANG FOR HIM who sent me and God blessed the house I was in. Your father, an inspiration to me, an elder sent by God to pave the way and lift me up before the congregations and I, lost in His love for them as I disappeared in the song.

  • Thanks Mumzy, you are a joy!

    Through His Blood,

    Jim

  • I can hardly wait to give your dear father a big ole hug when I see him and tell him what a blessing he was to so many even after he went home to be with Jesus.

God bless you and your family brother Jim.

  • You know what Jim when I saw this video in particular and I don't know why, I was just filled with this desire to give your dad a big hug and tell him "Thank You for keeping the doors to the church open and praying for the sinner who you did not know - for that was me"

So someplace in heaven I know your pop got a nudge from Jesus and was told "Look at your son you taught him of me well"

  • I was thinking the other day when you mentioned in your VLog about your responsibilities earning a living and caring for a congregation that you were the kind of man and preacher my Dad would have loved.

    G-d bless,

    Jim

  • Gosh I wish I had the chance to see this great man in person.
