Mr. Piper speaks plainly concerning the Word of God. This video and the comments made by yourself are like looking at a car, zooming in on the wheel as it spins and saying the car doesn't have an engine because all I can see is
rubber! At your own youtube channel, you have a Piper video titled "The Word of God Abide in You". This seems to be a strange contradiction to the video above and to your own opinion of John Piper. I would also invite you to open Romans and read, it's a goldmine.
This video is all fallacy. He means everyone has an inner need to be with God because he is our creator and his breath of life is in us. Perhaps John Piper should have used Spirit in more context than heart.
You're putting words in his mouth that he did not say. We all know guilt from before we trusted Christ. We all know that what we do is suicidal. Smokers know it's bad for them, drinkers know it's bad for them, thieves know it's bad for them but they just can't stop. So we have our idols to follow, because we were made to follow and worship. Isn't it obvious that we're lost sheep? Don't our idolatrous actions prove what we have in our hearts?
The way Brother John words this message may be confusing, but I dont think it is tantamount to the heresy you claim it is. If you really believe people will be led astray by this sermon, I would encourage you to write John Piper yourself and express your concern. I think that would be more appropriate than making videos that come across as mocking and maligning and arogant. I appreciate your zeal for truth, but encourage you to temper it with grace and humility as Col. 4:6 teaches us. Blessings.
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Secondly, I think what he is saying is that at some point everyone knows on some level that their is a God and they have fallen short of His glory. However, they repress this knowledge out of a love of self and sin. In other words, man doesn't sin out of ignorance but out of choice, and no man chooses right. This is exactly what Romans 1 teaches.
Regarding your concern with Brother John's message; I have two comments. First, I agree with dangerous4jc. Does he qualify these statements elsewhere in the sermon? I know for certain that he does not believe the things you claim his words imply: that the Bible isnt revelation, that truth doesn't matter for salvation, and that man seeks after God of his own nature. I have heard him teach the Bible as inspired revelation and necessary for salvation, and teach that man is dead in his sins.
Perhaps this is why causing dissention is condemned so vehemently in the Scriptures. In the seven abominations listed in Proverbs 6, sowing discord among the bretheren is listed right next to lying. I encourage you then to examine your heart and question not only your motives but your method. The Father loves John Piper and Christ died for him even as he did for us. That makes him worthy of our love and respect even if nothing else does.
This means that even if we are right no one will care about or believe the truth we tell them if they percieve it is spoken without love. This applies to believers as well as unbeliever. Many who might otherwise consider your issue with Brother John's doctrine may be unwilling to even entertain it because of the manner in which the argument is presented. Speaking the truth without love is not only disobedient then; it is ineffective.
If then we dont love each other, how right we are will not matter. No one will care about or believe the truth we tell them. This applies both to believer and unbelievers. Many who would otherwise be willing to consider your issue with Brother John's teaching may be turned off by the manner in which you present your argument. Then you fail both in communicating love and in communicating the truth. So not only is being unloving in our rebukes disobedient, it's ineffective.
