There is a tradition in Nepal that goddess Kumari lives in a body of a little girl. In a short period of her life, girl is treated like a goddess and is living in isolation in a temple. Her feet must not touch the ground, and if she hurts herself and bleeds, or when she comes to puberty, she is losing power of goddess, and she is forced to leave a temple and come back to normal life. Mostly this life is far from normal, because Kumari can never marry. There is a superstition that Kumari brings bad luck to husband. Here is a story about 15 year old Kumari and her adaptation in normal life after life in temple. I apologize because of bad sound.

In the end of the my movie there is another small Kumari, but I'm realy not sure is this same as said on yahoo. I took this movie few weeks ago from National Geografic. Apologize again because bad sound.

  • In YOUR opinion, she hit the nail on the head. So? Who cares if you are a jew, who cares where you are from? The point is you are not Nepali, you are not HIndu or Buddhist so who are you to criticize?

  • Well thank goodness for Americans, Westerners, and Christians with their decades old medical studies that quickly give their proud opinion about cultures that have existed for thousands of years. And here I thought Schizophrenia only existed in a small amount of people, when in actuality there are entire countries that are mentally ill! How right you are, proud Christian. Thank you for your wise and discerning opinion.

  • Yes but she will never be the same again. Here is the bogus part of the entire ordeal. In the end it will always feel unfair to her.

  • I am a Nepali.... and I felt this whole idea of taking a living a girl as a god totally disgusting.... angry with me? ... go send your daughter to be a kumari and destroy her life...if you don't dare, then you are just a bloody hypocrite... you so easily force a child to destroy her life so that you can fulfill your need of worshipping !

  • The figure of 80% Nepali are Hindus are from 1990's census. But as of today you are correct that only 35%-45% are Hindus as Nepalese are leaving Brahmanical religion (Hindusim). The dalits are becoming Christians, while Gurungs, Thakalis, Tamangs are predominately Buddhist. And certainly Rai, Limbu, Magar, Hayu, Jirel, Dhimal, Sunuwar, Yakkha, Tharu are going back to their ancient faith.

watch this video ---> " KIRATISM: Prayer of Earth And Nature " and you learn the oldest religion on earth.

  • Hinduism is a pretty fucked up religon.

  • What horrifying child abuse, in the name of culture and religion.

  • The Dhali Llama was raised the same way, but it seems ok to honor a holy man but not a holy woman. I am sure the Dhali Llama had at least one hard on in his life but you don't see him being thrown out into the streets and stupid comments by ignorant watchers. Seems there is still discrimination of returning the Goddess back to the status of God or respecting females.

  • aome get married to temple or temple tree, in the caste system. or devdasi system , they are sexually exploited by the hindu guru of the temples
