I dislike The Damned being called "punk" (although they used the term themselves) - they've always mixed punk, goth and other styles. The Captain has even experimented in pop a few times. (Wot? Yes to both.) If you insist on genres, call them Dark Fusion.

He said it himself, they are not some stupid punk band, they are " a highly intelligent group of articulate human beings and we need the cash." They never preached rebellion, If they are preaching anything at all, it is loyalty to their own way of life and doing what they want to do, how they like it. Not being put in any kind of box or told what to believe. If they didn't buy houses or ask to be paid they would be HOMELESS. They are artists, not hobos!

@lavitanova yeah the damned were one of the better punk groups along with the stranglers & the ruts. & there aint nothing wrong with makin money im talkin about preachin rebelion when not takin part yourself. (fuk they all got old i soppose). the only person that realy does get up my wick from those days is bob geldof. he gave margret thatcher so much shit in th 80s yet hangs out with tony blair ( eeuh what the fuk am i dreamin or what?) thatcher wasnt in the same leauge as that fukin cunt blair

@annabatarowicz So are they supposed t refuse to get paid to do what they do with their lives? It's still about the music first and foremost. When Captain says 'stupid punk music', he's essentially referencing the ignorant lot who won't get past 3 chords and politics. His wit re: money is in jest. They *are* an articulate group of mature artists, who have been around long enough to do as they please. They don't owe anyone anything. If you would stay poor to prove a point, that choice is yours.
