How safe is flying? "Safe and getting safer," according to famed pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger. However, the current state of the economy may deter the "best and brightest" from going into aviation, he says.

-----

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger had less than three minutes to plan and execute the water landing hailed around the world as "the miracle on the Hudson" last winter.

In a talk about work, priorities and challenges, Sully reveals how he'd spent his entire life preparing for those minutes in the cockpit of US Airways Flight 1549, when his actions would mean life or death.

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is a pilot from Danville, California. He is also the author of Highest Duty.

Sullenberger rose to fame when he successfully carried out the emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River, offshore from Manhattan, New York City, on January 15, 2009, thus saving the lives of all 155 people on the aircraft.

  • what an articulate guy. I like him

  • Sully is right on.

  • I originally wanted to go into the airline industry but instead became a builder due to reasons stated by Captain Sully.

  • Captain Sully, I do have such high opinion of your professialism that I have written about you in my book, "Layoffs & Hope". You are absolutely right that this is the age of human intellectual importance as opposed to traditional. In fact Steven Covey has pointed this out as well.

As an avaiation enhusiast, I am sad to see severe salary cuts, long hours, and trying the cheapest maintenance & resisting latest technology. CEOs need to act more Like Richard Branson of VA! Employees & customers 1st
