  • im from the same town as charlie poole im from Draper he was from spray.awsome talent same self destructive mind as most of us scotch/irish types.love this music

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hear that there is a Charlie Poole held annually down by you. Have you ever attended? I've read many of the biographies of old time musicians of the 20's and 30's and several came to violent ends. It's a shame. I would have loved to hear what other songs Poole might have recorded if he hadn't died so young. Thanks for your comment and for watching. Have a great evening, Brian

  • Hi,

We'd like to hear Hesitation Blues, Sweet Sunny South, Moving Day, and Bully of the Town, Thanks so much!

  • Good morning! I will see what I can do, although I don't have all the songs that you mentioned. But I will post up what I do have. Thanks for the requests and have an awesome day, Brian

  • The NC version of The Derby Ram - we sing it for our mummer's play, but it's a giant ram that the butcher cuts down. Here's the Sheffield version played on Anglia Harp

  • Oh wow, what a classic! Thankx for posting.

  • Charlie was my grandmother's first cousin. They grew up much like brother and sister and were close until the day he died.

  • loved this recording good quality-

I have been looking for a version of Jordan is a hard road to travel, it an old recording that has a whistling solo. I thought it might have been Charlie Poole? thanks for any help!

  • Amen! He really made you feel like you were there. When we lost Charlie Poole, we lost a truly gifted performer. Thank you for your post and for watching! Have a great night, Brian

  • Hi, many thanks. Charlie is a real one off. They don't make them like that anymore. (Well Keith Richards maybe!) His voice has such honesty about it. Even in a Civil War song," Write a Letter to my Mother", which is a bit saccharine and would have sounded maudlin with anyone else, Charlie's voice tells it just how it was.
